Global Affairs Office holds a variety of Chinese activities, courses, and scholarships to support foreign students in learning Chinese. In order to increase interaction between local and foreign students, these Chinese activities are conducted by local teaching assistants and professional instructors. We are committed to ensuring that foreign students have a fulfilling and culturally enriching experience during their studies.

Global Affairs Office regularly hosts over 20 Chinese Chatting Room each semester, where local students teach everyday vocabulary and introduce cultural customs while engaging in relevant discussions with international students. These 2 times per week conversation sessions serve as an effective means of maintaining Mandarin language proficiency and improving language skills.

Cultural Workshop
In addition to the Chinese chatting room, we also organize five to seven cultural workshops each semester, covering a range of topics including traditional handmade cuisine, DIY crafts of traditional artworks, and experiences of Chinese culture. Examples of these workshops include creating handmade pearl milk tea, DIYing traditional red brick houses, learning the art of Chinese tea, and practicing Chinese yo-yo exercises. These workshops offer students the opportunity to experience Chinese culture firsthand.

Learning Chinese characters has never been easier! This workshop will guide international students through the fundamental rules of Chinese character formation, helping them develop effective recognition techniques. We will introduce the four major principles of Chinese character creation: Pictographs, Ideographs, Associative Compounds, and Phonetic-Semantic Compounds, giving participants a deeper understanding of character structures and their evolution. Additionally, interactive activities will be included to help students distinguish similar-looking characters, reducing confusion in learning.
