「Overseas Chinese Student」：

According to the "Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan" the term "overseas Chinese student" refers to a student of Chinese descent who has come to Taiwan to study, who was born and lived overseas until the present time, or who has been living overseas for six or more consecutive years in the immediate past and obtained permanent or long-term residency status overseas.

However, for applicants seeking admission to undergraduate programs in Medicine, Dentistry, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, the required continuous residency period is eight years or more.

Overseas Chinese student status is validated by the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission (OCAC).

「International Student」:

According to the" Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan" A person of foreign nationality who has never held the Republic of China (“R.O.C.”) nationality and who meets the following requirements is permitted to apply for admission:

1. Applicants with foreign nationality who have not held the nationality of the Republic of China (R.O.C. Taiwan) and meet the following criteria:
   • Never undertaken studies in Taiwan as an overseas Chinese student.
   • Never given a placement by the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students in accordance with the Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan.

2. Applicants who hold dual Republic of China (R.O.C. Taiwan) nationality and meet the following requirements
   • Never undertaken studies in Taiwan as an overseas Chinese student and never given a placement by the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students in accordance with the Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan.
   • A person who before the time of their application also held dual R.O.C. nationality but no longer does at the time of their application shall have renounced their R.O.C. nationality with the approval of the Ministry of the Interior on a date at least eight full years before making their application.
3. Applicants having foreign nationality with Hong Kong or Macau permanent residency:
   • Never had a household registration in Taiwan.
   • Has resided in Hong Kong, Macau, or other oversea countries continuously for at least six years is permitted to apply for admission. However, a person who plans to apply to study in a university department of medicine, dentistry, or Chinese medicine must have resided overseas continuously for at least eight years.
4. Applicants who were formerly citizens of Mainland China, but now hold only foreign nationality
   • Never had a household registration in Taiwan.
   • Has resided in Hong Kong, Macau, or other oversea countries continuously for at least six years is permitted to apply for admission. However, a person who plans to apply to study in a university department of medicine, dentistry, or Chinese medicine must have resided overseas continuously for at least eight years.

「Overseas Chinese Student」

In fact, there is no Chinese language proficiency requirement when applying. Overseas Chinese Students can enroll in Chinese-taught departments or English-taught international bachelor's degree programs

International students must complete 10 credits of Chinese or English courses after admission.

「International Student」

Language Requirement：

1. For applicants applying to Chinese-taught programs, they must provide a proficiency certificate of Level 2 or above in the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL), or a certificate of completion of Level 2 in a Mandarin language program.
2. For applicants applying to English-taught programs, they must provide a certificate of English proficiency at the CEFR B1 level or above. However, applicants who are citizens of English-speaking countries (please upload your passport as proof) or have obtained a previous degree in an English-speaking country (please upload proof of the previous degree) are exempt from submitting English proficiency certificates.

Yes. It is compulsory. When applying, please provide proof of at least US$４,000 (or NT$120,000); if not in US$ or NT$, please provide conversion instructions; if the account is not held by the applicant, please provide the account holder's Statement of Financial Support. (Download Sample Here)

The Certificate of Scholarship can be used as financial proof by applicants who have been awarded a government scholarship, such as the Taiwan MOE scholarship, MOFA scholarship, or ICDF scholarship. Applicants who have applied for a government scholarship but have not received confirmation that they have received it should still provide a bank statement as financial proof. Applicants who do not submit the document will be disqualified from the preliminary review process.

It's not necessary.

Chinese-language proficiency certificates are not required if you are a citizen of a Chinese-speaking country or if your previous degree was taught in Chinese. The same applies to English.

The YZU scholarship for international students will be reviewed based on the materials submitted by the applicant when applying for admission.
For the following semesters, scholarships will be based on the previous semester's results.

If you do not have your passport at the moment, you can input "0000" in the application system to indicate that you do not currently possess a passport. This will ensure that the application system recognizes your situation.

YZU departments do not mandate specific high school subjects for admission. While there's no predetermined list of required courses, if your high school curriculum doesn't directly align with your intended field of study, we encourage you to address this in your application. Use your Autobiography or Motivation to convey your commitment and readiness to pursue your academic goals.

An exchange student refers to a student who participates in a formal exchange program with a sister school that has signed an official exchange agreement with our university. The exchange period can be one semester or one academic year. During their time abroad, the student is exempt from paying local tuition fees but is required to pay tuition and miscellaneous fees of Yuan Ze University. Currently, our university has over 50 sister universities/ institutions, of which 16 have established exchange student programs. According to the regulations of each university, the main requirement for English proficiency is typically based on specific English proficiency test scores. If the sister school does not have specific requirements, it is still necessary to have a valid English proficiency test score. Accepted tests may include TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, TOEIC, or other third-party language proficiency tests accepted by the desired university (e.g., German language proficiency test, French language proficiency test, JLPT, TOPIK, etc.). The test scores should be provided before the application deadline (before September 30 for the spring semester). If an official score report is not available before the deadline, an internet score screenshot (including the student's name) can be submitted for initial review within the university. However, the official English proficiency test score report must be provided in hard copy no later than the nomination deadline set by each university.

The application period for the student exchange program opens after completing one semester of study. In other words, students in their senior year can apply for study abroad during the second semester of their senior year. Student exchange information sessions will be held during the first week of the semester. The deadline for submitting applications will be within one month (subject to the nomination deadline set by the host university/ institution). It is imperative to closely monitor relevant information and updates regarding the application process.

Applicants are limited to selecting a maximum of two host universities/institutions in order to ensure fairness.  The selection process will follow the priority order indicated in the YZU Outgoing Exchange Allocation Wish List submitted by the applicant. It is recommended that students avoid selecting a popular host university/ institution as their first and second preference ( if the number of applicants for those schools equals or exceeds the available exchange spots). By doing so, they can reduce the chances of rejection. Once the online application is submitted, it is impossible to change the information or preferences. Therefore, it is important to double-check that the preferences entered in the system match those submitted in the printed application. Any discrepancies will be considered invalid applications. In cases where applicants have the same preferences, a selection will be made based on the evaluation scores and the need to maintain a balanced distribution across academic fields. Applicants who are not assigned to their first preference will be considered for their second preference in the subsequent distribution process.

Students are encouraged to research the corresponding programs/projects offered by the host university/institution based on their own academic background. Check the host university/ institution's website to determine whether you meet the language and academic requirements. If you choose courses taught in English, it is recommended to have English proficiency at or above B2 level. If you plan to take courses taught in the local language, such as Japanese, German, or French, it is advisable to have language proficiency at or above Japanese N2 level (for the majority of schools), German B1 level, or French B1 level. Please note that the specific requirements should be referred to on the official website of the sister school. Being nominated through the internal review process does not guarantee acceptance by the host university/ institution. Each student is limited to one opportunity to apply to a  host university/ institution, so it is crucial to ensure that your preferences align with your academic field and meet the language proficiency requirements of the host university/ institution to avoid disappointment in the final selection process by the host university/ institution.

Non-current graduates and local students will receive priority in exchange placements as students who have completed from the exchange program have an obligation to share their experience in information sessions with current students.

Yes! In fact, we actively encourage our students to study abroad for exchange, and we also provide generous financial assistance. However, the actual amount may differ each year according to the year's budget. 

If you would like to improve your English skills, there are many ways to do so. It is recommended you participate in the English Corner or sign up for the Writing Center hosted by the International Language and Culture Center (ILCC), where there are personnel who will be able to assist you.

Apart from the exempted host university/institute's tuition, you will be responsible for covering expenses like airfare, accommodations, insurance, and personal expenses. Information about the cost of living in the host country can be found on the respective universities'/institutions' websites. It is important to research and plan your budget accordingly to ensure you have sufficient funds to cover these expenses during your exchange program.

1. Apply for "Applying to Electives in Overseas Universities"
   Failure to apply before studying abroad will result in the inability to apply for credit recognition and Study Abroad Scholarships upon returning to Yuan Ze University. Please refer to item 4 of the guidelines for more information.
2. Since you will not be taking courses on campus during the exchange period, you need to personally visit the office of your department within the designated time to register for course reductions.
3. Purchase sufficient medical insurance coverage for your time abroad.
4. If you are a male Taiwanese of Recruiting Age, you must follow the regulations of the Ministry of the Interior for handling overseas travel matters.
   Please apply for overseas travel approval online through the National Immigration Agency's website (https://nas.immigration.gov.tw/) or consult the Military Training Office for related matters.

Students must take good care of their boarding passes and submit them within the deadline specified by the organizing secretary.

If you accidentally lose your original boarding pass, you can substitute by either one of the following options

You can use a photocopy of your passport's personal information page with the Republic of China's entry and exit stamps, and write/type in the blank space: "I lost my boarding pass for trip xx, so I am providing this Republic of China entry and exit stamp as proof," and sign it by hand. Please note that automatic immigration gates (e-gates) do not provide entry and exit stamps, so it is recommended that students use manual immigration counters for both entry and exit to safeguard your rights.
You can apply for a "Certificate of Boarding" from the airline, and most airlines will charge a fee of 100 NTD per flight.
Example scenario:

Suppose you are going to Tokyo, Japan, for an exchange, but you lost the original boarding passes for the round trip. When you depart from Taipei to Tokyo and go through immigration via the automatic gates, you can only apply using method 2, which involves paying the airline 100 NTD. On the other hand, when you return from Tokyo to Taipei and go through immigration at the manual counter, you can use method 1, which involves using your passport as a replacement.

If you check-in using the airline's app, you can directly download the electronic boarding pass to your mobile phone. When it's time for getting the Study Abroad Scholarship, please provide either the complete file or a screenshot of the boarding pass on your mobile phone.

The class selection process is entirely online. All new students will receive a student ID number and be notified of the course selection time.
