Dear international students and faculty members,
We are pleased to announce a special event to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. We will be distributing traditional glutinous rice dumplings to our international students and foreign faculty members as a gesture of appreciation.
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is one of the traditional Chinese holidays celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. This festival commemorates the ancient patriotic poet Qu Yuan. According to legend, Qu Yuan was a brilliant and beloved politician and poet, but due to political conspiracies, he was exiled. It is said that after Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river, people rushed to the water to retrieve his body and prevent fish and shrimp from devouring it. They also threw glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves into the river to stop the creatures from harming him. Over time, to commemorate Qu Yuan, people began participating in dragon boat races and eating glutinous rice dumplings during the Dragon Boat Festival. One of the festival's signature foods is glutinous rice dumplings, made by wrapping glutinous rice around various ingredients before steaming them.
At Yuan Ze University, we deeply care about our international students and foreign teachers. We are committed to creating a harmonious learning environment and providing comprehensive support and care. This glutinous rice dumpling distribution event is one way to express our gratitude for your contributions. We also actively promote Chinese culture to deepen everyone's understanding of Chinese traditions and values. The Dragon Boat Festival is an excellent opportunity for us to share this ancient and rich festival together and experience the charm of Chinese culture.
