Yuan Ze University signs a cooperation agreement with Minho University

Olga Pereira, Braga City Councillor for Mobility, and António Barroso, the mayor’s advisor, together with the municipal team and the Taoyuan Transportation Department visited Yuan Ze University.

Prof. Rui Vieira de Castro, President of the University of Minho, and Ching-Jong  Liao, President of Yuan Ze University, signed an academic exchange cooperation agreement online, starting the international exchange between the two universities.

President Ching-Jong Liao of Yuan Ze University expressed the university's commitment to cultivating talent through global mobility, creativity, and a combination of theory and practice. In order to provide students with more opportunities to engage with outstanding schools around the world, Yuan Ze actively establishes partnerships with high-quality international institutions. The establishment of a cooperative relationship with the University of Minho in Portugal is believed to enrich the academic capacity of both universities, as well as advance internationalization together.

Professor Rui Vieira de Castro, President of the University of Minho, expressed gratitude for the proactive efforts of the Braga Municipal Government in facilitating this cooperation. He looks forward to future academic collaboration projects or academic conferences between the two universities, hoping for the opportunity to visit Yuan Ze and the Taoyuan City Government in Taiwan.

Yun-Chia Liang, Chief of the Global Affairs Office at Yuan Ze University, stated that through the "International City Partners - Green and Compatible Action Plan" between Taoyuan City and Braga, they have been fortunate to establish a sister city relationship and seize the opportunity for cooperation with high-quality universities in the area, facilitated by the European Union. Chief Liang mentioned that in the future, the university will further discuss student exchange programs, academic research collaborations, and reciprocal exchange activities involving faculty and students. Director Fang-Bor Weng of the Green Technology Research Center mentioned that this EU project is related to green transportation and closely aligned with the university's Green Technology Center and fuel cell research. As a result of this collaboration, the two universities will be able to bring together their respective research capabilities and are expected to conduct joint research on green technology projects and publish papers on them.

The University of Minho (Portuguese: Universidade do Minho) is a public university located in the Minho Province of Portugal. It was founded in 1973 and has multiple campuses in Braga and Guimarães. It consists of 32 research centers and 11 colleges. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, it ranks between 201-250 in the Young University Rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, it ranks between 591-600. It is one of the universities that emerged during the "new university" wave in the revitalization of education in Portugal.
