YZU and the University of Essex sign the agreement on the dual degree program

Yuan Ze University has invited representatives from the University of Essex in the United Kingdom to visit Taiwan and signed a bilateral cooperation agreement to promote international academic 

exchange and provide students with international learning opportunities, thereby enhancing competitiveness in the globalized era. Provost Shieh stated that despite the constraints posed by the pandemic, the university had already established academic exchange and cooperation relations with the University of Essex in 2021. Over the past two years, they have actively discussed collaborations such as 1+1 dual master's degree programs and 3+1 articulation programs, and have already signed dual-degree contracts with various departments, including the College of Management, College of Information, and College of Electrical Engineering and Communication.

Provost Shieh emphasized that Yuan Ze University emphasizes innovative teaching and practical research and actively promotes international academic exchange and cooperation. As someone who has studied in the UK, Provost Shieh appreciates British education and academic culture. By expanding cooperation to departments such as the College of Engineering and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, they encourage Yuan Ze students to pursue dual degrees at sister schools in the UK.

Sun Yi-ming, Dean of the College of Engineering at Yuan Ze University, stated that the College of Engineering is committed to nurturing talent with engineering expertise. The signing of the cooperation agreement for the 3+1 dual master's degree program and 1+1 dual master's degree program across the entire college will provide more learning and exchange opportunities for students and faculty from both universities.

Vanessa Potter, Global Vice President/ Director of Communications and External Relations at the University of Essex, expressed great honour to visit Yuan Ze University as the first stop in Asia on behalf of Essex. She was impressed by Yuan Ze's students' proactive learning attitude. She expressed her hope to continue promoting activities such as faculty and student exchanges, joint course offerings, and camps. This will enhance academic exchange and learning opportunities between the two universities.

The University of Essex is a comprehensive public university in Colchester, the oldest recorded town in the United Kingdom. The university consists of five faculties, including the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Institute for Social and Economic Research, with 16 departments. Due to its excellent research performance, the university enjoys a strong national and international reputation. According to the 2023 QS World University Rankings, it is ranked 465th. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, it is ranked between 301-350.
