Testimonial of Iris Hoo Xin En from Malaysia

Hello everyone, I am Iris from Malaysia! 🤩 I am currently a second-year undergrad student in the EBBA department.

During my short time here in YZU (getting longer as we speak shshjsjd), I got to experience many things I didn’t get to do in my high school days! Therefore, I am very grateful to YZU 🙏 and would describe YZU as:

Transformative 🫧
Education may be important, but nothing is more important than your 👏🏻 personal growth and development 👏🏻. I was never the type to join any clubs or events back in the day, but now! I have joined the GSA which provided me with many opportunities to come out of my comfort zone 🥹. Thanks to all these limitless opportunities, I was able to open up and meet more new people which is actually not as scary as I always imagined! 😆 I become a better version of myself and I couldn’t wait to see what is in store for me in the upcoming years 🫣

Stimulating 🌟
University life can be stimulating because it provides opportunities for students to explore their interests and engage in intellectual discussions. And it’s true! Before enrolling into YZU, I didn’t know what I wanted to study at university 🫠 (There’s this saying that goes like “If you don’t know what to study in university, study business.”) So I did 🤡. And guess what now? I am actually enjoying my major! The teachers at YZU succeeded in stimulating my interest in the business major and I couldn’t be more thankful because I finally know what I want to be when I grow up! ❤️‍🔥 (P.S: Ms. Claire, if you’re reading this, thank you! 🫶🏻)

Welcoming 🫂
Lastly, YZU is welcoming because it's a place where students can find a sense of community and support. As an international student, it can be quite lonely at times ☹️. But GSA never fails to hold events for international students to make them feel like they belong somewhere, to make them feel like they're being welcomed with open arms 🤗. Not only that, the GSA staff are always there for us if we ever run into any problems. Even if there are no problems, they are still willing to sit down and chat, like friends! 👯‍♀️ Last but not least, YZU is home to many international students so there’s no need to worry about it.
